At First Street Books, we want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. If for any reason you are not happy with your order, we offer a straightforward 30-day return policy. Please read the details below to understand how our process works.

Return Eligibility
You may request a return within 30 days of the delivery date of your order.
To be eligible for a return, the following conditions must be met:
- The item must be in the same condition as when you received it
- The item must not have been further damaged, heavily annotated beyond what was described, or altered after delivery
- You must have proof of purchase (order confirmation email or order number)
If you are unsure whether your item qualifies for a return, please contact us before sending anything back and we will be happy to assist you.
Non-Returnable Items
The following are not eligible for return:
- Items returned after the 30-day return window has passed
- Items that were damaged by the buyer after delivery
- Items purchased as final sale, if clearly marked as such at the time of purchase
How to Initiate a Return
To start a return, please follow these steps:
- Contact us at contact.firststreetbook@gmail.com or call us at +1 (415) 456-8770 within 30 days of receiving your order
- Include your order number, the item you wish to return, and the reason for the return
- We will review your request and respond within 2 business days with instructions
- Once your return is approved, securely pack the item and ship it to the address we provide
- We recommend using a trackable shipping method, as we cannot be responsible for items lost in return transit
Please do not send items back without first contacting us. Unrequested returns may not be processed.
Return Shipping
Since we offer free standard shipping on all outgoing orders, please note the following regarding return shipping:
- Incorrect or damaged items: If you received the wrong item or an item that was damaged in transit, we will cover the cost of return shipping and send you a prepaid return label at no charge.
- Change of mind or other returns: If the return is due to a personal preference or a reason not related to an error on our part, the buyer is responsible for the cost of return shipping.
Refunds
Once we receive and inspect your returned item, we will notify you by email regarding the status of your refund.
- If your return is approved, a refund will be issued to your original payment method via Shopify Payments
- Please allow 5 to 10 business days for the refund to appear on your bank or card statement, depending on your financial institution
- Original shipping costs, if any were charged, are non-refundable unless the return is due to our error
Exchanges
We do not offer direct exchanges at this time. If you would like a different item, please return your original purchase for a refund and place a new order separately.
Damaged or Incorrect Items
We carefully inspect and describe all items before shipping. However, if you receive an item that:
- Was damaged during shipping
- Does not match the description listed on our store
- Is the wrong item entirely
Please contact us within 7 days of delivery at contact.firststreetbook@gmail.com with your order number and photos of the issue. We will resolve the matter promptly at no cost to you, either through a full refund or a replacement if available.
Order Cancellations
If you wish to cancel an order, please contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate cancellations before the order has been shipped. Once an order has been dispatched, it can no longer be cancelled and will need to go through the standard return process upon delivery.
